We had to produce 5 blind photos, 1 shutter speed photo, and 2 long exposure photos for this assignment. We had to keep our eyes closed, move around, and rely on our senses of touch and hearing for the five blind photos because we were not permitted to keep them open. Aperture, which determines whether something is in focus, shutter speed, which determines how quickly you want to take the photo, and ISO, which essentially determines how bright you want your photo to be, were all required for the 1 shutter speed photo and the 2 long exposure
2 blind photos that I like:
One of my favorite blind photography pictures I ever shot is the one above! And the sense of touch was what I used for this picture because as I was moving around, I was touching the ground and feeling the grass and leaves. I then made the decision to snap a picture of the ground, and this is what I got!
The image you see above is my second best that I’ve taken using blind photography. And the sense of hearing was what I used for this picture because as I was moving around, I heard the sink running. I then made the decision to go over to the sink and snap a picture, and this is what I got!
Shutter speed lab (balloon):
In this lab, we were required to use our cameras to take photos of my peers deflating a water balloon while attempting to capture the balloon in the air. I enjoyed this lab because I was able to take some fantastic pictures of the water balloon being burst in the air!
Water balloon photo!
Changing settings in camera / Pete Eckert:
By making the lights in my pictures longer and farther away so you can see where the lights went and what direction they also went, changing the shutter speed for the balloon lab led to changing the settings for the Long Exposure lab. The work of Pete Eckert, who is blind and uses light in his photographs to make the lights appear more distant, also pertains to this. And the reason I decided to use him as my motivation for this lab is that he did an amazing job of controlling shutter speed, ISO, and aperture despite being blind!
Bookface is when you grab a book that has a face or a part of someone’s face and you line the book up to your face so they could match up
My photos that I took!:
book title: anna author: Dlofeth book title: Mary Mary Author: James Patterson
Process for shooting and overall experience:
My process for shooting is that I grabbed the book and tried to find the best place that it I would line up and then I went and took the picture for each of my photos! Also my overall experience is good because it was an easy project and also was kind of fun too!
In order to complete this project, we had to search the area for 26 uncultivated things that resemble the letters of the alphabet and take images of them in order to create words from them.
How long did the project last?:
Finding all of my letters and putting them together to form a word for this project took me a week.
Easiest words to find / ones I struggled with / words I yet had to find:
The words that were the easiest to find was letters A, B, T, and L
I had trouble with the letters Q, R, G, and W.
I did find all of my words for this project which I’m very proud of myself for!
My favorite word that I took!
The word that I created:
Because it is my name and I believed it would be the simplest to make, Charli is the term I came up with.
What the project was like / how did I trained my eye for this project:
I found the project to be fairly enjoyable to complete. When the weather is great, I find it to be quite enjoyable to walk around and take pictures of various objects.
I had to look at everything outdoors extremely intently to see if any of it formed a letter, which is how I trained my eye for this job.
In order to complete this assignment, we had to search the area for items that would resemble a created landscape and try to tie them into the image that we had taken.
Inspiration on this project:
Andy Goldsworthy served as my inspiration for this project because of the great shots he took and the way he would set up the scene before snapping the shot. I also adore the way he edits his photos and fits everything together.
My examples:
Here is my first demonstration; it’s a photo of garlic powder that I shot by using one of my lenses to zoom in on it and then editing to make it appear like sand on a beach.
Here is my second illustration. I noticed a pile of sticks, so I picked them up and stacked them on top of one another. I then shot a picture with my phone while angling it since I wanted to relate this to a bonfire.
Here’s my third illustration. I took some lettuce out of the fridge, set it against a white piece of paper, and took the photo while getting close to it since I wanted to relate it to the leaves outside.
How was this project for me? What did I discover while creating?
For me, this project went okay. Near the end of the project, I really start to shine, but I still enjoyed myself and shot lots of images! And I learned while constructing that anything can be made to resemble another object, as evidenced by my creation, for which I utilized garlic powder; if I asked someone what it resembles, they would probably reply sand or something similar.
Closing off 2022: In 2022, I discovered more about myself, including the ability to constantly find a way around large obstacles and the need to stop being so hard on myself. I used to be quite hard on myself and would frequently make myself feel down. In addition, my photography has improved significantly since the beginning of 2022 compared to the end.
Projects I left off on:
1. Self-portraits: My Text and fantasy-based images are my incredibly popular ones out of all the photos that I’ve taken
2. Portrait: I used a common household object in my shot and took a new one to recreate an image of an ancient Renaissance portrait.
*fantasy**text*
3. Photoshop: One of the Photoshop jobs we completed involved utilizing flowers to create the illusion of a still life in a photograph.
BeforeAfter
*Bringing us into 2023!*
What do you hope to discover about yourself in 2023?: In 2023, I wish to learn more about myself, namely that I should never let myself down and to always be joyful!
What aspirations do you have as a photographer continuing to learn the craft: I want to improve as a photographer such that in 2023, my images will be better than they were in 2022.
My short term goal: I hope to capture better images than I did the last time for the 4th 6th weeks.
My long term goal: By the end of May, I hope to have improved upon my previous semester’s grades.
My personal goal: My personal mission is to always act with kindness and consideration for others.
As a photographer: to never rush when taking photos and to always take my time.
As a student: Avoid failing grades and focus in class.
*This post will all be about self-expression and what it means to me!*
Definition of self-expression: So, what does self-expression really mean? Well, self-expression means “expressing one’s thoughts and feelings, and these expressions can be accomplished through words, choices or actions.”
How important is self-expression to you?: Self-expression is important to me because it show’s how kind and good hearted you are to people and how well you express yourself to other people around you like friends, family, and etc.
What do I value in life?: What I value in life is my family and friends and I check up on them sometimes to see if they are doing ok and to help them if there is something wrong. And I also value myself like doing things for myself.
What makes me, me?: What makes me, me is that my family helped me make me by telling me what the right and wrong thing to do in things and my friends by helping me be a much more happier and better person.
How does this coincide with how you express yourself?: This coincides myself on how I express myself by telling my friends or family what is going on if they ask and to not keep it inside and to help other people that is going through stuff as well.
*Song quote*:“Make him express how he feels. And baby, then you’ll know your love is real”
Monday (10/10), Tuesday (10/11), and Wednesday (10/12) was Fall break! Which I really needed those days off badly. And also its half way through the semester which seems long but it wasn’t long at all also, Thanksgiving break is next month which I am really excited for!
What did I do on fall break?: What I did during my Fall break is that I turned 16 on the 9th! So, I went bowling and the went out to eat for my birthday after. But most of my Fall break was spent at home.
What is Columbus Day / opinion on it?: Columbus Day was on the 10th and my position on Columbus Day is that I really don’t have an position on Columbus Day because it really isn’t important to me. And some people are wondering why is Columbus Day so controversial? Well I will tell you! Controversy over Columbus Day dates back to the 19th century, when anti-immigrant groups in the United States rejected the holiday because of its association with Catholicism. In recent decades, Native Americans and other groups have protested the celebration of an event that resulted in the colonization of the Americas, the beginnings of the transatlantic slave trade and the deaths of millions from murder and disease. European settlers brought a host of infectious diseases, including smallpox and influenza that decimated indigenous populations. Warfare between Native Americans and European colonists claimed many lives as well.
My stance and details on Columbus Day: My stance on Columbus Day is that it should be celebrated because it is when Christopher Columbus found the new world (the Americas). And the day should be named “New World Day”. It was unofficially celebrated in a number of cities and states as early as the 18th century, but did not become a federal holiday until 1937. For many, the holiday is a way of both honoring Columbus’ achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage. The first Columbus Day celebration took place in 1792, when New York’s Columbian Order—better known as Tammany Hall—held an event to commemorate the historic landing’s 300th anniversary. Taking pride in Columbus’ birthplace and faith, Italian and Catholic communities in various parts of the country began organizing annual religious ceremonies and parades in his honor.
About this project: The purpose of this project is to examine the many components of photography and the images that are produced for each.
My favorite: My favorite photo is of my dog because I thought it was adorable when I first saw him curled up in that posture for emphasis through positioning. And that’s what I was thinking of while I snapped this image!
Most successful:Contrast in lighting!
Most successful (to my peers): Contrast in lighting, in my peers’ eyes, is my strongest suit.
How the process went: I went over to the flower because I thought it had great lighting, and as I was about to take a picture, I noticed a bee on the leaves. Since bees terrify me, I hurried to snap the picture before the bee flew away.
Improvements: My photographs need to have backgrounds that are filled in so there isn’t any vacant space, and I need to add more interest. And that’s what I was contemplating while I took this picture!
Teachers pick:Overlapping shapes!
Favored by the teacher:Overlapping shapes!
How the process went: I thought it was amazing how the shadows on the table were overlapping each other when I first saw it. Additionally, I think the way the shadow shaped the table in that manner was amazing. And that’s what I was thinking as I snapped this photo!
